Michael Fagan
Consultant - Educator - Presenter - Mentor
Michael Fagan is an internationally recognized professional and subject matter expert in the wine, spirts and beer industry. For more than 38 years he shared his drive and talent with one of the worlds largest beverage alcohol retailers, the LCBO. Initially on the retail floor, then as a senior wine consultant, Michael moved to the corporate head office to restructure and lead the LCBO’s Knowledge Resources Group.
At the LCBO he collaborated on the development and championed the strategic, marketing and customer service plans for the organization. Michael’s entrepreneurial approach is balanced with a vision of improving operational efficiencies while enhancing the customer experience and evolving employee engagement. An advocate for developing a knowledgeable workforce, Michael recruited, trained and directed a dynamic team of retail Product Consultants. Michael also created and supported a host of innovative training programs for a network of more than 6,000 LCBO employees, as well as educational programs for customers. Michael’s expertise and insights also supported the LCBO Marketing and Communications divisions in developing award winning promotional campaigns.
A well-recognized spokesperson with a passion for sharing knowledge and ideas, Michael was a regular contributor for the LCBO Food & Drink Magazine as “The Matchmaker”. As on-camera host and producer of the award winning “Discover” series of educational videos, Michael’s open and inviting approach demystified the world of beverage alcohol for students, consumers, enthusiasts across the globe.
As a subject matter expert Michael has worked with leading educational institutions developing wine related studies. As a respected industry professional he has also held a seat on advisory boards at: Tourism Toronto, Ontario Tourism and Marketing Partnership, Ontario Culinary Tourism Alliance, Niagara College, Georgian College, and at Brock University - Cool Climate and Enology Institute.
Michael retired from the LCBO in 2014 and continues to be active in the industry as an independent consultant. As the wine "Expert in Residence" at George Brown College, he supported the development and launch of their “Advanced Wine and Beverage Business Management” post graduate degree; designed local and international experiential learning programs; provides insight and support for related strategic planning. Michael also collaborates with local and international marketing groups, wine industry associations and trade and consumer show producers, providing subject matter expertise and management support.
